Is “Putin “creating nightmares for travelers to visit their dream destinations?
Rusoo-ukraine war, sparked by putins’invasion,
In February 2022, the Russian president Vladimir Putin launched special military operation in the Ukrainian border by claiming to avoid foreign military involvements and denazification.
There have been many political conflicts since past decade between Russia and Ukraine. Since Russia started its military operations in Ukraine, The United States and NATO countries predicted about upcoming terrors and hardships. Due to the agreement of expansion of NATO with the inclusion of Ukraine, Russia started the invasion to express their extreme disagreements on Ukraine’s' participation with NATO.
Since February 2022, the two countries have killed each other in the battle field by supporting to fulfil selfish external and internal political agendas of both countries in result of taking thousands of innocent civilians ‘lives including women and children.
Due to the war, both countries ‘economic stability was
impacted significantly. Imports and exports were hindered and eventually
countries GDP dropped that led to the economic downfall. Due to the ongoing
war, not only Ukraine, Russia and the neighboring countries, entire world is affected
from wars’ negative impact.

The above charts show
how both countries are suffering from economic instability due to the
invasion. According to the UN news, 18th May 2022, in world economic
situation and prospects (WESP) report, they have mentioned the global economic
downfall was 4% than predicted due to the war in Ukraine.
Consequences of the war irruption and questionable itineraries,
The impacts of the
war are unmeasurable. In fact, after the World War II in Europe, Russian
invasion of Ukraine, created huge downfalls which led to social and economic
crisis. According to the UN report of in global crisis response
group published on 8th June under the Global impact of the war in Ukraine, emphasize on three major challengers
that generate which are increase food price, high energy prices and sanctions.
After
suffering from the covid 19 pandemic, most of the world's population stated
their normal life including fulfilling their dream vacations.
Sanction and
restriction,
Since
lack of investment and further sanctions imposed on Russia due to Russian
invasion of Ukraine, crude oil prices significantly inflated compared to what
it was during the pandemic, and impacted on oil and gas supply for the demand.
Since the high price of oil, the international and domestic air fares increased
by questioning the travel itineraries of travelers.
The
vulnerability of the tourism industries from series
of unprecedented events around the globe make changers on percepts
of travelers. Due to the cost of living is increasing with energy price inflation
as the war irruption in Ukraine, many tourists are limit their travels
to simple excursions. For many tourists to arrive, the prime concerns should be
affordable air fare, accommodations, foods and hassle-free currency
transactions to ease the payments.
Sanctions and
restrictions effect on the air transportation,
Due to the higher oil price in the market, airline industry has faced a huge challenge. The fuel is the main component for airline to operate and also it is the biggest variable cost which effect the entire airline operation. Since the unacceptable Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian airspace was closed by Restricting the aircrafts fly to, from and over the territory. Because of the air traffic restrictions, flight have to reroute to avoid Ukraine airspace which cause airline to change their schedule route by detouring. As a result, flight times are longer than usual and passengers may encounter many transits and delays.
According to the IATA analysis on war in Ukraine and Air transportation
on 22 March 2022, the IATA settlement system, which is related to transactions
between agents and IATA airline members are affected due to sanctions imposed
against Russia. Passengers face difficulties in making their payments for air
fares and agents are in challengeable situation to prosses the settlement and
refunds to their customers.
Airlines
are the key componence of the travel business. Utmost concern of the airline
operators is to provide safe aircrafts for the passengers to have a safe
journey. Due to bans of export of air craft spare parts could be a problem for
the air crafts divert in emergencies in or around Russia which is a great
threat to the passengers and the airlines ‘smooth operations.

Ukrainian tourists’ arrivals,

Conclusion,
Any countries at war affects its
economy and livelihood. And it’s the least expected event to be happened in the
world. It is a threat to the tourism industry. After World War II, the Ukraine
war against Russian invasion had made major impacts on different manner in
worldwide. Both countries, neighboring countries and supporting countries are
politically bounded and the outcomes are contradicted. Empower the personal
agendas over the innocent civilians reflect the unethical hidden face of autocracy
to opinionated the cruelty. Impacts are varied. As I mentioned above, the
tourism industry of the world is decelerating due to the consequences of the war
specially in Europe.
From my own experience, when I visited Russia during the
beginning of the Ukraine war, I suffered from their sanctions. All
international money transactions were banned within Russia and it burdened me
to even find alternative solutions to pay my bills. There were many protests
and Martial law was imposed. Therefor I was unable to visit many places as I
expected.
According to the gathered information,
travelling is a challenge during the war irruption.
Tourism Industry of a country is important to the country’s’ GDP. If
the tourism industry falls, that country’s’ GDP declines and it led to its'
economic downfall. This could have been avoided if leaders of both parties and
external parties were responsible for their own decisions makings.

Even
though this song written in decade and a half ago, when you hear the song, every
word has timely meaning. It immediately takes you to the burdens of ongoing war
in Russia and you feel the cruelty. There is a hope for freedom of travel and simple
act of kindness could make a difference. Future of our children lies on our
hands. War is a mass distraction. It takes lives and destroy the landscape and
resources. Every country is a unique place and it is every human beings’
responsibility to protect it for the future.

War in any country is a pointless waste of human life, resources and infrastructure, started by politicians for their advantages and greed. The Russia-Ukraine war has impacted the economy of the whole world. As a person working in Maldives which rely on tourism heavily has seen a slight decline in tourism this year not only from the countries directly affected by the war but also from other countries. This is mainly due to the rise in fuel costs in turn the rise in airline ticket prices which is directly a result of the ongoing war. If the war escaltes in the coming months we could see a further decline in tourism.

The tourism industry was awaiting early 2022 to bounce back from pandemic-related losses. Many countries like sri lanka and iraq, once popular with tourists have all but disappeared from the tourist map over the years because of repeated hazards. Outflow of Russian tourists who could not travel amid worldwide sanctions against Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine hit the tourism industry so badly.
ReplyDeleteAfter the pandemic, world tourism started to accelerate. Many restrictions related to covid 19 were mitigated and open for international travelers. However, the easing of travel restrictions around the globe are contributing to the normalization of travel, but the conflict continue to pose a serious threat to the recovery.
ReplyDeleteAll the political bodies must consider the facts that cause the war and need to be address accordingly in a less harmful manner. Starting a War is not an answer. It only expresses the capabilities of mass distractions and the barbarian way of showing the power of the country. This causes many issues which effect the world economic stability.
DeleteVisitors from Russia continue to be the island's top source of tourists even as Sri Lanka's economic situation worsens and tourism numbers are shockingly low. In February, prior to the coronavirus epidemic, there were expected to be 200,000 tourists in Sri Lanka. This year, only 96,507 people were involved. However, Russian visitors, who made up 15,340 arrivals, were in the first place, followed by arrivals from India (12,744), the UK (10,642), Germany (7,740), and Ukraine (5,620). Despite the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Sri Lanka continues to welcome Russian tourists, as Russia remains the leading market for Sri Lanka tourism. As well as it should loosen the restrictions around the world for the normalization of global tourism.
